Community Clean-Up And Sports Day

Objective:

To promote environmental awareness, community pride, and unity by engaging youths and families in cleaning up public spaces and participating in fun sports activities.

Implementation Plan

1. Event Structure & Format

Duration: One-day event (Morning: Clean-up, Afternoon: Sports Activities)
Location: Local streets, playgrounds, football fields, and public spaces in Kawala/Bwaise
Participants: 150-300 community members, including youth, families, and local leaders

2. Community Clean-Up Activity

Start Time: 8:00 AM – Participants gather for a briefing on safety and tasks.
Areas to be cleaned: Streets, football fields, school surroundings, markets, drainage systems, and open spaces.
Cleaning Equipment: Gloves, trash bags, rakes, brooms, wheelbarrows, and bins.
Collaboration with Authorities: Involve the local council, environment agencies, and waste management services for proper disposal.
Educational Talk on Environmental Care: A short session on how to keep communities clean and the importance of recycling.
Team Challenges: Form teams for a “most cleaned area” competition to encourage participation.

3. Sports Day Activities

Start Time: 12:00 PM – After the cleanup, participants gather at the sports venue.
Activities:
- Football Matches: Youth teams compete in friendly games.
- Relay Races: Fun races for kids and adults.
- Tug-of-War: Encourages teamwork and engagement.
- Traditional Games: Include local games such as kati (dodgeball) and ekikadde (jump rope).
- Fitness & Aerobics Session: A community-wide fitness activity to promote healthy living.
- Special Exhibition Matches: Local leaders, teachers, and parents vs. youth teams.

4. Target Audience

Primary: Youth, children, and families in Kawala and Bwaise.
Secondary: Local business owners, community leaders, school representatives, and municipal authorities.
