March 2022 โ Empowering the Future Through Education
๐ Welcome to 2022! A Year of Growth and Opportunity
As we step into a new year filled with hope, possibilities, and transformation, the Fecane Child Foundation extends our warmest wishes to all our supporters, partners, and the incredible youth we serve. Happy New Year! ๐
The past two years have been a journey of resilience and impact, and as we move forward, we are more determined than ever to expand our programs beyond sports to ensure that vulnerable children not only thrive on the football field but also excel in the classroom.
This year marks the beginning of an exciting new chapterโone that prioritizes education, mentorship, and holistic child development.
๐ Why Education Matters: Beyond the Football Pitch
For many of the children we support, football is more than just a gameโit is a pathway to discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence. However, we recognize that for true long-term empowerment, education must go hand in hand with sports.
Too many children in Kisenyi, Bwaise, and other underprivileged areas struggle with limited access to quality education, facing challenges such as:
โ Financial constraints โ Many families cannot afford school fees, leading to high dropout rates.
โ Lack of learning materials โ Children often lack basic school supplies, making it difficult to keep up with their studies.
โ Academic struggles โ Without guidance, many students fall behind, leading to frustration and disinterest in education.
Recognizing these challenges, we officially launched our Educational Support Initiatives in March 2022, ensuring that our young athletes also receive the academic support they need to build brighter futures.
๐ Fecane Child Foundationโs Educational Support Initiatives
1๏ธโฃ After-School Tutoring and Homework Assistance
We introduced structured after-school tutoring sessions, where trained volunteers and mentors assist children with their studies.
๐ Subjects covered: Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies.
๐จโ๐ซ Mentorship and career guidance to help students set academic goals.
๐ Location: Sessions are held in community centers and available spaces near football training grounds.
Through this initiative, children are now able to balance their love for football with academic excellence.
2๏ธโฃ Providing School Supplies and Learning Materials
Understanding that many families struggle to afford school materials, we began distributing essential learning kits to students in need.
๐ Each kit includes: Exercise books, pencils, pens, rulers, and other necessary items.
๐ Textbooks and reading materials are provided to help students improve literacy.
๐ฅ๏ธ Access to digital learning tools for students interested in technology and innovation.
This initiative has already supported over 300 children in Kisenyi and Bwaise, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in school.
3๏ธโฃ Scholarships and Financial Assistance
To reduce school dropout rates, we introduced a sponsorship program that assists children from vulnerable families in paying for school fees.
๐ซ Primary and secondary school scholarships for students with outstanding potential.
๐ต Financial aid for uniforms, exam fees, and other school-related expenses.
๐ฏ Focus on at-risk youth who are passionate about both football and academics.
We have already secured sponsorships for 50 children, ensuring they can continue their education without financial barriers.
4๏ธโฃ Leadership and Life Skills Development
Education is more than just textbooks and examsโitโs about building character, leadership, and life skills.
๐ก Workshops on critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
๐ค Public speaking and leadership training to empower young voices.
๐ค Guest speakers and role models from various professional fields inspire and guide the students.
By integrating personal development training, we are shaping well-rounded, confident young individuals ready to make a difference in their communities.
๐ The Impact So Far
Since the launch of our Educational Support Initiatives, we have witnessed incredible transformations:
โ
Increased school attendance โ More children are motivated to stay in school.
โ
Improved academic performance โ Students show better results in exams and assignments.
โ
Greater confidence and ambition โ Kids now dream beyond football, aspiring to become doctors, teachers, and engineers.
One of our proudest moments was seeing our first group of students achieve academic excellence, with some even earning scholarships for higher education!
๐ Looking Ahead: Expanding Our Educational Programs

๐น Building a Community Learning Center โ A dedicated space for after-school programs, digital learning, and mentorship.
๐น Expanding scholarships โ Supporting more children with full academic sponsorships.

Girls in Football: Breaking Barriers for Young Female Athletes
June 2022 โ Empowering the Next Generation of Female Footballers
For years, football has been predominantly male-dominated, with many young girls facing social, cultural, and financial barriers that prevent them from fully participating in the sport. At Fecane Child Foundation, we believe that football is for everyone, and in June 2022, we officially launched our Girls in Football Initiativeโa program designed to empower young female athletes, break gender stereotypes, and create equal opportunities for girls to play, learn, and grow through football.
โฝ Why Girls’ Football Matters
In communities like Kisenyi, Bwaise, and other underserved areas, young girls who dream of playing football often face:
๐ง Social Stigma โ Many believe that football is “only for boys,” discouraging girls from pursuing their passion.
๐ฐ Financial Constraints โ Families struggling to make ends meet often prioritize boysโ participation in sports over girls.
๐ Limited Access to Training Facilities โ Few safe spaces exist for girls to train, and many are hesitant to join male-dominated spaces.
๐ช Lack of Role Models โ Young girls rarely see women excelling in football, making it difficult to envision a future in the sport.
Recognizing these challenges, we took action to create an environment where girls feel safe, supported, and encouraged to play football.
๐ The Launch of the Girls in Football Initiative
In June 2022, we officially kicked off our Girls in Football Program, with an overwhelming turnout of over 50 young female players eager to learn, compete, and develop their skills.
What Our Program Offers
๐ Free Training Sessions โ Led by experienced female coaches and mentors.
๐ Football Gear & Equipment โ Providing jerseys, cleats, and training kits to ensure every girl is properly equipped.
๐ฉโ๐ซ Mentorship & Life Skills โ Empowering girls with leadership, teamwork, and confidence-building workshops.
๐ Community Engagement โ Educating families and communities on the importance of gender equality in sports.
Our goal is to break down the barriers that have historically held girls back from fully participating in football.
๐ก Overcoming Barriers: How We Support Female Athletes
1๏ธโฃ Creating Safe Spaces for Girls to Train
We identified key locations where girls felt comfortable and safe to practice without societal pressure or fear of judgment.
๐ Dedicated girls-only training sessions to help them build confidence.
๐ก๏ธ Safe environments with female coaches and role models.
๐ค Community awareness to gain support from parents and guardians.
This approach has encouraged more parents to allow their daughters to participate, leading to an increase in enrollment.
2๏ธโฃ Promoting Role Models & Representation
Many girls hesitate to pursue football because they lack female role models in the sport. To inspire the next generation, we:
โญ Invited female footballers and coaches to mentor and train our players.
๐ค Organized storytelling sessions where successful women in football shared their journeys.
๐ฃ Showcased young female athletes on social media to highlight their talent and achievements.
By seeing women thriving in football, young girls are now more motivated than ever to chase their dreams.
3๏ธโฃ Challenging Gender Stereotypes in Football
Our program also focuses on changing mindsets within families and communities.
๐ก Educating parents on the importance of supporting their daughters in sports.
๐ Hosting gender equality workshops to break down traditional stereotypes.
๐ช Encouraging boys to be allies by fostering an inclusive football culture.
Through consistent advocacy, we have seen a positive shift in attitudesโmore girls are joining, and families are becoming more supportive.
๐ The Impact So Far
Since launching the Girls in Football Initiative, we have seen tremendous progress:
โ
Over 100 girls enrolled in football training by the end of 2022.
โ
More community acceptance and increased parental support.
โ
Girls displaying more confidence and leadership on and off the field.
โ
Opportunities for scholarships and advanced training emerging for talented female players.
One of our most inspiring success stories is Amina, a 14-year-old girl from Kisenyi, who was once discouraged from playing football. Through our program, she not only improved her skills but also became one of our strongest midfielders, inspiring other young girls to follow in her footsteps.
๐ Looking Ahead: Expanding Girls’ Football Opportunities
We are committed to growing and sustaining our Girls in Football Initiative with exciting future plans, including:
๐น Expanding training locations to reach more girls across Wakiso and Kampala.
๐น Introducing competitive girlsโ football leagues to provide structured gameplay experience.
๐น Securing scholarships for talented female players to further their education and sports careers.
๐น Partnering with professional womenโs football clubs for exposure and mentorship.
With your support, we can empower more young girls to chase their football dreams without fear or limitations.
